EXPLORE NORTH CORNWALL

Situated near the beautiful North Cornwall Cornish coast, a stones throw from the historic village of Kilkhampton, Hillside Chalets are located within Penstowe Manor Park Resort.

The region boasts some amazing National Trust properties, beautiful gardens and don’t forget our fantastic mining heritage. There are also marvellous attractions, such as The Eden Project, Newquay Zoo, Lost gardens of Heligan, National Maritime Museum and many more.

We are just 2½ miles from the sandy beach at Sandymouth Bay.

Kilkhampton
Kilkhampton is believed to date from Saxon times when it was an important settlement, Kilketon. In the Domesday Book it is known as Chilcheton and taxed under the jurisdiction of Orcett (Orcot), now Orchard in this Parish.

It stands on the ancient Ridgeway which was used by monks from Hartland Abbey when they visited their land in this area.

The manor was awarded to the Granvilles, de Grenvilles in 1088 after the Norman Conquest. The family came from France, military leaders with William the Conqueror.

Aldercombe House, dating from the pre 17th century and Stowe, built 1680, manor of the Grenville family are near the town.

Here the remains of a 12th century motte and bailey style Norman castle can still be seen and the church of St James the Great is at least 450 years old. It is one of many churches dedicated to this saint on a pilgrims' route, which leads ultimately to Santiago (St James) de Compostela in northern Spain.

Kilkhampton is a former market town and was once a centre for the leather industry with tanning, bootmaking and saddlery being major trades.

There’s lots to love about nearby Bude.  With a laidback allure all of its own, and so much to see and do, there’s something for everyone. From romantic whiskaways to fun-fuelled family holidays, it’s all here, where Cornwall begins and everyday cares melt away.  Following the 2015 British Travel Awards, Bude was named as Best UK Coastal Resort.

With thrills, spills and pure escapism on the menu, Bude is a little town with big possibilities. Ramblers, riders, surfers and swimmers flock to our sunny, spotlessly clean beaches and wild coastline. However, a little-known secret is that Bude’s also fabulous for secluded golf courses and brilliant sea and coarse fishing.

We all need a little pick-me-up once in awhile, and Bude is just the ticket. Just a stone’s throw from the Devon border, epic, wild beaches and a thriving cultural hub await. Whether you embark on a day or a stay, you can expect one of the warmest welcomes in the South West. We are also child friendly, dog friendly, access friendly… in fact we’re just friendly in general here.
